Blogg about Kidney Transplant

http://kidneytransplantforkyliesmom.blogspot.com/

I did some research on other bloggs who related to Kidney Transplants and I came to a blogg which was set up by someone who had a family member going throught that process. They built up a blogg about how things went for them daily so its more a dairy for people to read but this helped me to see what people from the outer box saw.

The Woman who set up the Blogg (Christina) :
My daughter Sandra is a young vibrant mother of a 13 yearold daughter. Sandra was diagnosed with end stage renal failure in November 2005. She has since then had two surgeries to allow access for two different methods of dialysis. Her doctor says that her only chance to a "normal life" is a kidney transplant. As there can be up to a ten year wait on the transplant list, and no blood matches in the family, the transplant coordinator told us it is time to aggressively campaign for a living donor.

Welcome to my blog. I created this blog out of desperation to find a living kidney donor for my daughter. I also want to use my blog to bring awareness to the pain, dialysis patients suffer while waiting for years, for a kidney transplant. I hope, as people visit this place that they will realize how important it is to sign up as an organ donor. In some communities, it is enough to have a sticker on your drivers license. However, in other places, like my province, British Columbia, Canada, you have to be registered with the transplant society. Although this blog does not look like much right now, there will be a lot of information here as soon as I get more proficient in blogging. Christina

Target Audience

                         Target Audience

Target audience is the whole aspect that will depend on how successfull our film was so I did proper research on who our target audience would be for this short film looking at the themes and genre.
After doing this research I discovered our target audience profile and because our main theme is Drama so we needed a mature audience. We then decided to go for 15+ simple because we knew at 17 year olds we would understand the story line and people under the age of 16 wouldnt really be much interested in that kind of drama because they havent developed to that maturity level yet.

Target Audience : Male/Female aged 15 + any ethnicity
You would need a bit of understanding of family relationships to understand what really happens in this shortfilm and also how things occur within families in our today.
We felt that this audience would be suitable to this film because there at a stage were they would have matured to an certain extent and would understand how the relationships in this film work. Also this is a very deep and touching story line of donating his kidney to his mother so it wouldnt be suitable for children to watch on the grounds that they wouldnt understand this whole concept.
If I narrowed it down with the audience age I would really say 16- 60 and these people are young and old people mixed together as for the younger people the lifestyle they would live is a more family based lifestyle they either attend education or work and still are at home with their parents and possibilties of their parent going through something like this.
For the older generation they could be either house wife/mans or their in a current job which does give their life some free time to spend time with their family or loved ones.

The kind of films our audience would watch is Mother , 7 Pounds , Family films , Brotherhood etc these fall into our film theme's and genres.

My Poster Analysis

The colours in my poster are a mixture of black & white and then full colour and the reasons why I choose to use these colours is because I wanted to create that great impact on anyone that passed by the poster. The sense of black and white would make the public think what kind of “old film” is this but looking at the detail would reveal to them. And the use of original colour just to make it look modern and also appealing to the viewers eye because colour is what the human eyes catch first then shapes. The title of the poster is black simply because its isnt a fancy film so I kept the colour straight forward.

The symbols shown in this poster is pain and tragedy because of the way the images are portrayed and laid out. These symbols expose the genre to the audience more however the main figures in these posters are the characters displayed on the poster in this case its John, Colin & Mother Linda there are some objects which gives away what kind of environment plays in the film e.g. Poster 2 there is John sitting at the table with a cereal box and this sends the straight message of this scene being played in the morning at their house. All of these are represented photographically because the use of images delivers the message which is trying to be reached to the audience.
Messages in these posters are represented both visually and verbally because we have images which give in messages and then the tag lines and the extra comments from major labels also signify a message.

The intended target audience for this poster would be 15+ simple because it has a lot of drama and some kind of action involved and the immature mind wouldn’t be able to understand a film like this. The 3rd poster has the characters hugging each other and this symbolises a strong relationship between them two. It wouldn’t be right if the target audience was PG which is open to everyone because it isn’t that kind of Finding Nemo film or anything which a 5 year old child can sit , watch and understand.

These poster have a its own uniques style of attracting its target audience through various persuasive techinques. Firstly the layouts of the posters are very eye catching because I followed on how the orginal poster did there and looking at films of the same theme I caught many ideas on how to show forth these posters. Use of colour and contrast is a persuasive technique I inserted in because I knew that it was one of the main avenues to attract our audience and doing some quick research it has proven to work a bit.
Tag line , Text and Font these are other persuasive technique that a viewer would look at and this would decide wether they will be interested in watching the film or not.

When its down to genre its straight into drama and some even mentioned action however the main genre is drama and then if we break it down its also about relationships. The poster represents a lot of tragedy and this falls into drama. The USP of this poster is the design of the actual poster and how the characters are presented on poster is another USP because looking at the other posters that are out from amateurs film makers I personally feel that this one would be one of the oustanding film posters just because of the creativity put into it.

Expert witness "The poster design is brilliant however it has to look more of an drama genre"
"Real creativity inserted in this poster and the title font is good"

The poster promises a good film just becasue the way its been set out and its attractive from a far point of view. Studying other film posters I discovered what a good attractive selective film poster looks like and from that information I transformed it into my own poster for "Take the next Step"

Research : Father and Son Kidney Transplant Success

Recent kidney transplant recipient Carlos Chambers discusses what it was like for him to receive a kidney from his father, Thomas Dunkins, III. Carlos discusses his experience being on dialysis for two years as a result of progressing kidney failure as well as his recovery and return to a normal lifestyle after receiving a kidney from his father on October 28, 2009.

Carlos and his father also discuss why they chose to come to the University of Maryland Medical Center for the transplant, which was performed by both Dr. Matthew Cooper and Dr. Stephen Bartlett. They talk about their experience attending the Transplant Education Series offered by the Medical Center and why they came back to UMMC to help other patients and donors currently going through the transplant process.

Poster 3

When creating this, my final poster it was important to incorporate some of  the elements from my first poster and second poster and to also take on board the feedback regarding sustaining housestyle and simplicity. So I began with the background which would be made out of clouds but with a gradient colour added to it which was from sky blue to white.  The title had to become more outstanding so I changed the font of the text and added more effect unto them like outer glow, outline, shadow and embross. These text effects made the title of the film better compared to the first poster but I only noticed after the feedback I receieved from my target audience.
The positioning of the main picture made things look more realistic on the grounds that I looked at family drama posters and there is usually a scene shot from the film on the front cover so I did the same and took the most touching moment out of the film and simple used the lasso tool to cut it out and add it unto the background.  Another new aspect I added in after feedback from poster 1 & 2 is the picture of John at the bottom of the poster because this created a massive effect on how much of a drama it is.
